Yesterday for a brief adventure we went to Tongeres, a medium sized town 20 km away...known as one of the oldest towns in Europe and for its antique markets (of course!) The first time I heard my non-plussed 8-year old say "Cool!" was when he saw a sculpture of an "asterix" type viking who had made his home in this village in the 4th century AD...this picture above is us posing with his spears. The boys scrambled all over some 4th century ruins at the base of the town's church and were astounded at the thickness of the walls. A local boy (age about 10) tried out his english on us ("good day boy, how are you? You happy to meet me?") and our boys found it curious and a bit odd...they'll get used to that, as I'm sure it won't be the last time.
So we're off to another wee adventure before having dinner at a new friend's home where chickens roam the garden and a new rabbit family has been born (yummm....rabbit stew!!)
Hi Maggie & Family!
ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful to hear that you all arrived safely and that you're beginning to get all settled in. Your descriptions are wonderful, and almost make me feel like I'm there, and it sounds amazing to be surrounded by chocolate & wine!
